Collecting Canned goods already made a difference

Think about the 30 hour famine. do you think that your walking around collecting canned goods made a difference?  You may say yes, but you don’t really understand the impact of it.  Let me tell you a little story about what happened when I went to the Pickerington Food Pantry on Thursday to drop off the food.

No one was there.  I mean the door was locked, the lights were off and no one was there.  So I’m standing at the door copying down the contact numbers that were posted there.  And that is when it happened.  What you may ask?  Opportunity.  An opportunity to meet needs now.  As I was standing there 3 ladies walked up and were upset that no one was there.  As I walked away I hear one lady say, “I need food for my family”.  So I drive away, trying to contact someone who can open the doors to receive my donations (which I did) and it hits me- I can meet a need right now.  So I turned around and went back.

I call the ladies over to the van, and ask them if they all need food.  Yes, they do.  So I open the back of the van and the ladies just kind of stand there. One of them asked how I pulled off this miracle.

And because of what you did during the 30 hour famine, I got to say, “no miracle.  I just have a church that cares about people.  Help yourselves, ladies”

And 3 ladies walked away with food in their hands, for their families, and I got back in my van knowing that God had allowed us (as a church and youth group) to not only meet needs, but to meet needs right now.

Here are a few pics from the 30 hour famine-

30-hour Famine

29,000!  A relatively large numbers.  If you were to count to 29,000 in a day, you would need to say one number every 3 seconds for 24 hours.  That is 20 a minute, 1200 and hour, 29,000 in a day!  Ok big deal, its just a number.  Well, that number, that 29,000, is the number of children under the age of 5 that die everyday from hunger, disease and poverty.  Now how does that number look? It is a BIG DEAL!!!

On Friday, May 23rd, we will kick off our 30-hour famine.  From 1pm on Friday, students and adults will stop eating until 7pm Saturday Night.  Sign up this Sunday at Sunday Morning Class or at Cross Current, adn get your fundraising packet.

For every dollar you collect, you can feed one of those 29,000 children one meal.  Do you know anyone who could spare a dollar? how about more?  Let’s see how much we can collect over the next few weeks!

Sign up this Sunday and get all the info about our 30-hour famine.

Perhaps she could play in our band?

What do you think?  I know she is only 10 but I think she brings something to the table…

Don’t know if any of you watch the show “house” or not.  I love it. The new episodes started last night, and there was a Biblical story referenced in the show (one that we talked about in our UNTOLD STORIES series).  Did any of you catch it?

If you read this and you know, respond to it.  I’ll post the answer later.

IT’s all in how you look at your situation…

You ever wish that something in your life would change?  I mean, maybe you wish you could be taller, or skinnier, or maybe have one less sibling (okay, just kidding about that but seriously wouldn’t it be great?) I know that I sometimes complain about certain things in my life…and then a story like this comes along and helps me put the whole thing in perspective.

Jyoti Amge is a 14 year old girl living in India.  She’s a normal teenager, dreaming about being an actress, loves fashion and is into DVD’s.  The only difference is that she is only 1ft 11in tall (which is smaller than the averange two year old).  You should read this article.  Her outlook on life is incredible.  She will never get any taller, but that hasn’t stopped her from enjoying life!

What a great story!

Is teen drinking a problem?

I know that there are people who attend Pickerington North and Pickerington Central that consume alcohol on a regular basis.  I know for a fact that students have shown up to school drunk, or have been seen drinking in the parking lot.

So yeah, I believe that teen drinking is a problem.  But I also know that me telling you guys not to drink will only go so far.  Maybe there has to be more?  Well, I found this story about a girl who had liver failure at 14 years of age due to her binge drinking.

I think this quote from the girl somes of very well what many teens think about drinking:
“I didn’t think my drinking was a problem because all my friends were getting wasted every weekend as well,” Farnham told the newspaper. “But, now I have no short-term memory and doctors warn me that if I drink anymore I will die.”
